HAGONOY, BULACAN - Last October 29, the whole town of Hagonoy rejoiced that at the end of the flood caused by the Typhoon Lando, the Parish Church of St. Anne has celebrated its 24th anniversary of being a national shrine. During the said celebration, the priests of the Kapatiran ng Kapariang Taga-Hagonoy, Inc. (KAKATHA) gathered to be one in the celebration at the 9:00 am mass, considered the Misa Mayor of the day. The celebration was presided over by Rt. Rev. Msgr. Sabino Azurin Vengco, Jr., H.P. (San Jose), President Emeritus of the group who will be celebrating his 50 years as a priest come December 21 (Bodas de Oro). 


   In his homily, he said that he likened Hagonoy to the city of Jerusalem, full of splendor with the many graces it has received through the ages. Yet it also poses the challenge that in being the faithful of the shrine, we are called to do better with our lives as we aim to be with God through promoting more vocations. Before the Holy Eucharist ended, Rev. Msgr. Ranilo Santos Trillana, P.C. (Sta. Monica), President called on the faithful to give thanks to God for the five priests to be awarded for their celebration of Golden and Silver Presbyteral Jubilees and one who was newly ordained to the priesthood. Two of the said celebrators, Msgr. Vengco and Rev. Fr. Romulo Manocom Perez (San Sebastian) received their awards for the Golden and Silver Jubilees respectively during the celebration of the Mass. Rev. Fr. Virgilio Mangahas Cruz (San Jose), KAKATHA Treasurer and another Silver Jubilarians received his award when he came during the reception. Two other Silver Jubilarians, Rev. Fr. Elmer Roque Ignacio (Tampok) and Rev. Fr. Peter Ronald Saldaña Eugenio, O.F.M.Cap. were unable to attend due to ministerial commitments. The benjamin of the group, Rev. Fr. Ferdimagne Coronel Pascua, O.S.J. was also unable to attend due to adjustment to his new parish at Ibaan, Batangas.


   After the Mass, the members of KAKATHA dined and met at the reception for priests at the Knights of Columbus Hall at the shrine convent. There, a decision was made to extend the term of the present KAKATHA officers as well as to provide a monetary collection for the expenses during the event. Also, Msgr. Trillana had a private book launching of his new work on homilies for the seasons of Advent and Christmas entitled, "Halina, Hesus Halina."
