HAGONOY, BULACAN – Last March 21, 2017, Rev. Fr. Daniel Maniego Coronel celebrated his first solemn Mass at the National Shrine of St. Anne, Hagonoy, Bulacan. It began through the procession, which began at Santiago Trillana Academy in barrio San Sebastian with devotees of St. Anne and Our Lady of Remedies following their respective carozzas to the shrine. The Mass begun at 5 o’clock in the afternoon with his priest batchmates, members of the Kapatiran ng Kapariang Taga-Hagonoy, Inc. (KAKATHA), members of the Malolos clergy and religious priests concelebrating.

In his homily, Rev. Fr. Federico Ramos III whose served as Fr. Coronel’s preacher thanked the Lord for the grace given to Fr. Coronel despite the many challenges he faced. He recognized that it is indeed the grace of God, which helped him throughout his journey to the priestly ministry. He also noted of the importance the people had been in Fr. Coronel’s life as it was in their generosity that sustained him in his years in seminary formation.

Fr. Vicente Lina, Jr., former president of KAKATHA spoke in behalf of his fellow Hagonoeño priests, thanking the Lord for the blessings given to the gracious town of Hagonoy for a continuous line of priest-sons, signs of God’s abundant love through the intercession of St. Anne, called by the locals as Apo Ana. He said that may Apo Ana’s further assistance to the people of Hagonoy allow for the increase of priestly and religious vocations for the formation of more faithful Catholics to service in the Church.

Fr. Coronel, a native of Mercado Hagonoy, Bulacan is noted as the 115th priest to be ordained from the town. The record of the KAKATHA holds that town has 49 deceased priests beginning with Rev. Fr. Sebastian dela Rosa de Lara ordained in 1765, 67 active and retired priests and 5 priests who have chosen other callings to life in holiness. Fr. Coronel will be assigned as assisting priest at the Diocesan Shrine of Mahal na Poon ng Krus sa Wawa – St. Martin of Tours Parish in Bocaue, Bulacan up to June of this year before being enrolled in the diocesan neo-presbyteral program.
