HAGONOY, BULCAN - Last October 29, the community of the town of Hagonoy, Bulacan rejoiced on the celebration of the 25^th Anniversary of the Dedication of the Church of St. Anne as a national shrine.  In honor of this celebration, the Municipal Government of Hagonoy headed by Hon. Raulito Manlapaz, Jr., Municipal Mayor initiated the Civic Commemoration of the Anniversary of the Proclamation of St. Anne’s Parish as a national shrine. The said event was held at the Municipal Hall of Hagonoy attended by several of the original committee members who prepared the way to the declaration of St. Anne’s as a national shrine.

This commemoration comprised of a reminiscing of the events that occurred in 1991 when the proclamation from the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) was given to the parish community of Hagonoy. The Municipal Special Events office mentioned that, “The whole town prepared for the event with offering time, effort and resources in order for the patroness of our town, Apo Ana may be given due respect and in thanksgiving to God for this special grace.” The ceremony commenced with a prayer, the singing of the Philippine National Anthem, the singing of the original hymn in honor of the 1991 event performed by Banda Santa Ana and followed by a traditional folk dance performance by the Sta. Monica National High School Folk Dance Troupe.

Called to speak on behalf of the clergy of Hagonoy, Rev. Msgr. Ranilo S. Trillana, P.C., President of the Kapatiran ng Kapariang Taga-Hagonoy, Inc. (KAKATHA), expressed his thanksgiving for the blessings received by Hagonoy. He said, “According to historians, the very important reason which made the CBCP decide for Hagonoy to be the national shrine was how in the span of time, the town has produced more than 100 priest-sons and several more religious brothers and sisters. Truly with such a grace, (the church of ) Hagonoy could not but receive this honorific title as a national shrine.” KAKATHA, the present organization of priests-sons in the country has a list of 114 priest-sons of Hagonoy, 66 of whom are still alive and actively serving in different dioceses and religious congregations, here and abroad.

After the words of gratitude, the Parish Pastoral Council of Sta. Ana, the guests of honor and the clergy went to St. Mary’s Academy of Hagonoy to pay respect to the priests who were arriving their for vesting.  From the academy, the Mass procession began led by the Most Rev. Jose F. Oliveros, D.D., Bishop of Malolos and Most Rev. Deogracias S. Iñiguez, Jr., D.D., Bishop Emeritus of Kalookan and the clergy of Malolos. (KAKATHA News Admin.)
