MARIKINA CITY - On March 9, one of Hagonoy's beloved sons, Rev. Msgr. Sabino Azurin Vengco, Jr. (San Jose) celebrated his 70th birth anniversary. This celebration was a blessing no just to him but also to the number of old and retired priests he has helped through the Ephesus Ministry of the Kadiwa sa Pagkapari Foundation, Inc. which he founded in 1993. A thanksgiving mass was held at the Diocesan Shrine of Birheng Mapag-ampon in Sta. Elena, Marikina City that was attended by many of his relatives, friends, students and colleagues. One of his students, Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Socrates B. Villegas, D.D. served as the homilist for the celebration. "Thank God that we have Msgr. Vengco," he exclaimed. Consequently due to his commitment to community service, the provincial government of Bulacan headed by Hon. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado, also a Hagonoeño awarded him with the "Gawad Dangal ng Lipi" (Pride of the Race) for his apostolate for the elderly and the sick. He received this award together with Atty. Pablito Trillana, III, a colleague and fellow Hagonoeño and Executive Secreaty Paquito Ochoa, a fellow Bulakeño.
Besides his apostolate with elderly priests, Msgr. Vengco also heads the Msgr. Jose B. Aguinaldo Foundation which aims to support formation programs and advocacies for priestly vocations in the Church of Hagonoy through its monetary aid. He teaches Mariology and other theology subjects at the Immaculate Conception Major Seminary (Guiguinto, Bulacan), San Carlos Seminary (Makati City), Loyola School of Theology (Quezon City), Recoletos School of Theology (Quezon City) and at the Ecclesiastical Faculty of Theology at the University of Santo Tomas (Sampaloc, Manila). He is also a social communicator with his radio programs "Ecclesia in Asia: Ang Salita ng Diyos" heard every Sunday at DWIZ 882, at 5 to 6 in the morning which was formerly a television program that ceased in 2010 due to financial incapabilities. Early this year he accepted the task of moderator for the vicarial media group Catholic Hagonoeño: Looking into the Catholic Heritage of Hagonoy, Bulacan, Philppines, which publishes online every quarter. It was also through this effort that BATINGAW: Lathalaing Opisyal ng Msgr. Jose B. Aguinaldo Foundation is able to publish online through the said website.
Truly in all his efforts as a priest for Christ, Msgr. Sabino Vengco is continuing to be a hardworking apostle for the faith. He is a true priest-son who serves Hagonoy and the whole Catholic Church. Please click this link: Catholic Hagonoeño (Vol. 1, Issue 1, March 2012). KAKATHA News Admin.
